Dental Assistant I

Description: Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is currently interviewing Dental Assistant I right now, this occupation will be delegated in Texas. Work involves assisting dental staff, taking and developing X-rays, data entry as appropriate. May trai! n others. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Works with state school residents who may have multiple physical, mental, and behavioral disabilities which negatively impact their cooperation and participation in routine dental procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
EJF 1. Seats patients and prepares them for dental work. (5%)
EJF 2. Determines reason for visit and arranges dental instruments and mateirals for dentists in
preparation for examining patients. (5%)
EJF 3. Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles dental instruments following treatments. (20%)
EJF 4. Properly prepares dental clinic Biomedical Waste for collection. (5%)
EJF 5. Maintains established dental supply inventories by procuring supplies through appropriate
procurement procedures. (5%)
EJF 6. Assists in taking and developing X-ray films, mounting X-ray films, and filing x-ray films and
case rep! orts. (15%)
EJF 7. Assists in maintaining/filing records, ! scheduling client appointments, and performing other
clerical duties. (25%)
EJF 8. Assists in mixing and preparing solutions and materials for fillings. (10%)
EJF 9. May instruct Direct Support Staff or Individiual's served on treatment, medication, and
toothbrushing needs. (5%)
EJF 10. Performs related work as assigned. (5%)
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyâs obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
- Knowledge of dental instruments, equipment, and materials and their uses; of sterilization methods;
- Knowledge of OSHA Blood Borne ! Pathogen Precautions, Rules, and Regulations related to body
- Knowledge of appropriate techniques and precautions in the use of x-ray equipment and low dose radiation.
- Skill in the use of dental tools and equipment.
- Ability to appropriately apply physical restraints as outlined in the individuals Annual Rights Assessment and/or appropriately signed consents to prevent unintentional injury to the individual or staff during dental procedures.
- Ability to train direct support staff and individual's served on routine dental hygiene.
- Ability to assist professional staff in performing dental procedures.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Works
Dental Assistant Registration Certificate preferred.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Experience as a dental assistant or training as a dental assistant.
Additional Information:
Salary Note: The salary offere! d will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.
Position is paid $1,881.75 per month.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
