The Cashier reports to the Assistant Director for Administration through the
Accountant I position, who acts as t! he immediate supervisor. Duties are moderately complex clerical and cashier duties including: Maintaining, issuing, and reconciling cash funds; Receipting and preparing bank deposits; Disbursing consumer/hourly/miscellaneous/Foster Grandparent Program payrolls and travel warrants; Preparing financial records; Performing incoming and outgoing mail distribution; Maintaining postage records; Typing; Filing; Using personal computer with Outlook, WORD, and Excel as communication tools; and Answering telephone inquiries. This position works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
Serve as Custodian for assigned petty cash funds in accordance with TX DADS (Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services) and LuSSLC (Lubbock State Supported Living Center) policies and procedures to insure that disbursements represent valid expenditures to minimize the risk of unauthorized tra! nsactions and/or misappropriation of funds.
2) Receipt all! funds received by the Cashier's office and prepare bank deposits daily in accordance with TXDADS Fiscal Manual to insure that all funds received are processed and safeguarded to reduce the risk of errors and/or fraudulent acts.
3)Disburse consumer/hourly/Foster Grandparent Program/miscellaneous payrolls, and travel warrants in accordance with TX DADS Fiscal Manual, HHSC Payroll Letters, and LuSSLC policies and procedures to safeguard warrants, insure consumers, and staff receive the compensation due them, and minimize the risk of unauthorized payroll transactions.
4) Maintain financial records which relate to the Cashier's office in accordance with TX DADS Fiscal Manual requirements to ensure that documentation is available for reconciliations and audits.
5) Prepare all outgoing mail for transmittal by Accounting staff and distribute incoming mail in accordance with TX DADS Fiscal Manual and LBSS policies and procedures to insure that LBSS operates within US Po! stal and Express Mail regulations.
6) Oversee issuance and maintenance of campus pagers and cell phones to authorized staff.
7) Prepare and submit financial reports and reconciliations to TX DADS Regional Accounting Office in an accurate and timely manner.
7) Other duties and special projects as necessary to operate an efficient Business Office as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge: High School Graduate with post high school training in Business Processes comparable to a Certificate of Completion from an Accredited Business School or 30 semester hours of college credit. Knowledge of 1) Business terminology, 2) Spelling and Grammar, 3) Arithmetic, 4)Office Practices, 5)Common practices in cash reconciliations and cash records, and 6)Personal Computer use inclusive of WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK. Proven ability to: 1) Communicate effectively, 2) Understand the confidentiality of information, 3)Prioritize assignmen! ts, 4) Operate standard Office Machines accurately and quickly, 5)Be ta! ctful, cooperative, and flexible, 6) Meet and deal effectively with the public, 7)Prepare and maintain complex records and files, 8)Make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations and procedures, and 9)Pass Criminal Record Check and be eligible to be bonded, 10) Communicate and teach persons with developmental and physical disabilities.

Initial Selection Criteria:
1) HS Graduate/GED.
2) Minimum of one year work experience in public or private sector with banking or retail services involving cash transactions and/or cash register reconciliations.
3) Additional documented paid work experience in cashier, banking, trust fund administration, cash reconciliations, preparing bank deposits, reconciling bank statements, or similar business tasks.
Additional Information:
All applicants must pass: pre-employment drug screen, fingerprint criminal background chec! k, and Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Employee Misconduct Registry and Nurse/Aide Registry checks. Males between the ages of 18 â" 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
Starting salary for this position is $1881.75 per month.
