PART I - General Job / Performance Information
Education and Experience - College degree in business related field or equivalant experience. Medical and i! nsurance terminology.
Environmental / Working Conditions - Work in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs of other departments.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships - Constant interactions is required with Admitting, Utilization Review, Fiscal Administration, Resource Assistance, Health Information Systems and Information Systems. Frequent interaction is required with all revenue generating departments. Interaction with other departments shall occur as needed.
Job Description - This employee is responsible for the management of all credit balances and/or refunds and overpayments on patient accounts. The employee is responsible for following up on possible overpayments with insurance companies according to third party payer guidelines. This employee works from a "rep" list that is constantly changing based on incoming cash flow; as well as responds to incoming mail requesting refund! s for claim overpayments.The refund clerk also works closely w! ith accounting and accounts payable in the processing of refund checks to ensure correct dollar amounts and payer information is accurate. This employee is also responsible for ensuring that all transaction batches are balanced both weekly and monthly with hospital accounting records. This employee is also responsible for the mailing of all refund checks as well as the communication with insurance companies and recovery agencies.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations - None required.
Physical Capabilities - Work is of medium demand, walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on-duty. Occasional lifting of equipment is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required for typing. Talking and hearing is essential in dealing with co-workers and customers.
Skills and Abilities - Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Mainframe computer skills. Basic accounting and detailed clerical skills. P! ossess customer relation skills. Highly technical and problem solving skills. Ability to adapt to changes.
