PART I - General Job / Performance Information
Education and Experience! - High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred)Health Care experience is desired. Customer Relations skills are a must.
Environmental / Working Conditions - The Patient Service Assistant is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships - This position requires interaction with medical staff, ancillary areas and patients directly in order to facilitate a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
Job Description - The Patient Services Assistant (PSA) transports patients, equipment, medication, specimens, and records from one location to another within the hospital, Medical Office Plaza, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and other facilities. The PSA responds to requests as assigned by the transportation dispatch system via telephone and/or via departmental policy. The PSA is expected to respond quickly and courteously to calls from various departments ! throughout the UMC/TTHSC complex or the various MOP clinics. P! SAs serve in a support capacity to various hospital departments as well as numerous hospital clinics.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations - CPR Certification is required of all PSAs and must be completed within the first 90-days. University Medical Center will provide necessary training.
Physical Capabilities - The PSA must be emotionally and physically fit. Work requires much walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and transporting of patients, specimens, medications, supplies, records, paperwork, and equipment. The atmosphere may at times become stressful and physically/emotionally demanding. Since assignments are based on actual transportation needs of various areas and departments, the PSA is required to work throughout the hospital, Health Sciences Center, and the Medical Office Plaza. The work is of high risk for exposure to Biological and Chemical hazards.
Skills and Abilities - The Patient Service Assistant: should posse! ss good written and verbal communication skills; should be knowledgeable of the physical layout of the UMC/TTHSC Complex; follow established procedures and practices related to the position.
