Serve as a member of the TFS Incident Response program leadership by: Providing supervision to the Regional Fire Coordinators, task forces and other emergency! response employees; assisting in the professional development of coordinators and staff; managing and providing input on employee training, equipment specifications and replacement, fireline and workplace safety, and agency policy and strategic direction; insuring compliance with all agency policies, procedures and reporting requirements; assisting, delivering or managing special projects as assigned; producing reports, presentations and serving as a professional representative for the agency. Serve as an all0hazard emergency responder (including wildland fire): Working long hours, with minimal rest and in primitive conditions; exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as smoke, wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes; walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, and kneeling; lifting and carrying heavy objects; driving motor vehicles for long distances; operating heavy equipment with related exposure to equipment vibratio! n and noise; operating computers with monitors for extended pe! riods of time. Emergency response may result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations for extended periods of time. Persons working in fire operations positions must meet a physical fitness standard which includes successfully completing a two mile walk in 30 minutes or less carrying a 25 pound pack.
Occasional Duties
Supervise field delivery of capacity building programs to fire departments and other emergency response entities. Provide leadership and promote interaction with fire departments and communities on fire related issues. Promote capacity building programs and other initiatives that increase response capabilities at the local, regional and statewide level.
Provide oversight in the administration of assigned personnel and insure successful delivery and support of additional programs and projects including training academies, mitigation projects, fuels assessments and other intra-and inter-departmental activities.
Serve on! FRP-RESP Command Group, TFS Incident Management Teams, Fire Prevention, and WIldland Urban Interface Mitigation Teams, with related response training and preparedness.
Direct, train, develop and evaluate subordinates in public/private-sector education and outreach programs. Provide support for Forest Resource Development and other TFS programs as needed.
Manage and account for: Assigned TFS credit card/s; TFS vehicle log book/s; Daily Activity Time Reports; and any assigned TFS equipment in accordance with applicable laws, rules, procedures and guidelines. Comply with all loss prevention, environmental health, and safety standards as established by applicable laws and rules.
Required Education:
4 year degree
Preferred Education:
Masters degree in any area or Bachelor of Science Degree in natural resources, land management, fire science, emergency management, or related field.
Required Experience:
Ten years with TFS, recognized fire department of wildland fire! agency. Demonstrated knowledge of educational systems, course development and revision. Certified law enforcement, firefighter or instructor certification. Thorough, demonstrable knowledge of wildland firefighting and the Texas Fire Service.
Preferred Experience:
Experience operating under the National Interagency Incident Management System. Experience as an instructor, particularly in ICS and IMT training.
Required licenses, certifications, or registrations:
Persons serving in fire operations positions must meet and maintain appropriate physical fitness standard testing.. Obtain and maintain a valid State of Texas drivers license within 30 days of employment.
Preferred licenses, certifications, or registrations:
NWCG training or equivalent to Division Supervisor level. Texas Commission on Fire Protection and/or SFFMA Advanced Firefighter and Instructor certification.
Required special knowledge, abilit! ies, and skills:
Proficient in use of word processing, presentation, mapping and GPS-related programs.
Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Working knowledge of wildfire hand tools, water delivery equipment, firefighter personal protective equipment, wildland fire apparatus, and IMT experience.
