Correctional Licensed Vocational Nurse

Description: Texas Tech University is employing Correctional Licensed Vocational Nurse right now, this vacancy will be situated in Texas. Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty correctional facility c! linic. Work is performed under the direction of a correctional staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluation to patients. Work is performed under correctional clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patients and clinic personnel.
Major/Essential Functions
Supports the Service Plus Philosophy of TTUHSC . Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures. Maintain patient confidentiality.
Medication administration and documentation. Nursing treatments performed as ordered by physician and documents procedures followed and patient response. Monitors patients’ psychiatric and medical status and reports changes in status to supervisor or physician.
Represents nursing in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. Maintain clean, healthy nursing unit.
Occasional Duties
Occasionally acts as a mentor for new employees and students.! Other appropriate duties as assigned.
Qualifications!
Completion of a recognized program of vocational nursing. No previous experience. Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas. Certified in CPR . Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to use basic equipment, i.e. thermometer, blood pressure cuff, scales, stethoscope, as well as more sophisticated equipment utilized within the assigned department; ability to follow directions; ability to observe pertinent details; ability to communicate effectively. Preferred: Familiarity with special procedures utilized in assigned area of work, i.e., chemotherapy administration, laser treatments, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Psychiatric and/or correctional nursing experience is preferred.
