Senior Counselor

Location: Lubbock, Texas

Description: Texas Tech University is presently looking of Senior Counselor right now, this occupation will be designated in Texas. Performs personal, vocational, educational, or other advanced counseling or training at the individual or group level. Responsibilities include analyzing special and/or complex problems and ma! nagement of counseling programs. May supervise counselors or other employees. Performance is based on individual counseling effectiveness and overall program results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

• Assist with the management and monitoring of the Learning Assistance Program ( LAP )
• Provide comprehensive academic support through tutorial services
• Serve as primary contact between Academic Services and the tutorial staff (subject tutors, general tutors and academic coaches)
• Coordinate program activities and events for tutorial area
• Maintain tutorial databases (GradesFirst, Blackboard and Tutorial Roster)
• Prepare necessary reports and updates for coaches and staff
• Actively recruit qualified tutorial staff
• Hire, train, evaluate and supervise subject tutors, general tutors and academic coaching staff
• Supervision of 85-105 tutors, 1-3 graduate assistant(s) and/or intern
• ! Work in collaboration with athletic compliance, the Director o! f Learning Assistance Program and the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services to ensure proper procedures and process
• Maintain records in compliance with Texas Tech University, Big 12 Conference and NCAA standards
• Assist with the recruiting activities as needed
• Provide academic workshops and/or referral to campus services or resources
• Provide consistent and frequent communication with Associate Athletic Director for Academics regarding tutorial requests, concerns, trends and tutorial staff issues
• Create tutorial staff work schedules
• Facilitate payroll
• Design and facilitate regular tutor trainings/orientations
• Monitor the administrative process of reporting issues of academic fraud and/or academic integrity
• Collaborate with the Learning Assistance Program staff, athletic academic advisors and student-athletes to assign tutors and academic coaches
• Collaborate with athletic acad! emic advising staff to improve program offerings
• monitor student case enrollment to anticipate special tutorial needs
• Update athletic academic advisors and coaches about the tutorial requests of student-athletes
• Limited general advising responsibilities (as needed)
• Provide support for study hall monitoring
• Manage program development

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years experience in related area. Additional education in a related area may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

This is a Security Sensitive Level I Position: Applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check and may be required to be fingerprinted.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of two years’ experience in athletic academic advising or related experience in an educational envir! onment
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• A thor! ough understand of student development, counseling, advising or related areas
• Ability to interact with individuals of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
• Ability to collaborate and to work effectively with other staff, student-athletes, coaches and administrators
• Be able to work in time sensitive and occasional pressured environments
• Ability to organize tasks and set priorities
• Must have a total commitment and adherence to NCAA , Big 12 Conference and institutional regulations
