Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech faci! lities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions
- Safely performs skilled work to test, install troubleshoot, service, repair, overhaul, and modify refrigeration process equipment, control equipment and component parts in relation to comfort cooling; food preparation; storage and service equipment; secondary cooling distribution network; environmental chambers; fume hoods; exhaust ventilation systems; air compressors for Texas Tech University facilities and research equipment, using refrigeration as part of its function or process.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on refrigeration, exhaust and ventilation, and pneumatic air production equipment.
- Must perform skilled work and understand the theory and application of refrigeration, gas-fired heating systems. Ability to replace, repair, calibrate and test the devices is ! essential.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable to operate University vehicle. This position will be subject to a driving record check.
Must meet minimum physical fitness requirements for this position as certified by qualified medical personnel as a condition of employment.
This is a Security Sensitive Level II Position: Applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check and may be required to be fingerprinted. Applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing after a conditional offer of employment has been extended but before employment can be confirmed. The offer of employment is contingent upon the candidate passing the drug test. Employees in Level II positions are subject to! a post-accident drug testing.
Preferred Qualifications
EPA certification for “Universal†CFC recovery and recycling.
General knowledge and ability to safely perform inspection and repairs of DX air handling units and valves; chiller secondary cooling water generation systems; CFC recovery equipment; fume hood and exhaust systems; and air production equipment and distribution network components.
